The theme of peace day this year is Cultivating a Culture of Peace.
This year is the 25th anniversary of the United Nations General Assembly’s adoption of the Declaration and Programme of Action on a Culture of Peace. In that declaration, the UN recognised that
‘peace not only is the absence of conflict, but also requires a positive, dynamic participatory process where dialogue is encouraged and conflicts are solved in a spirit of mutual understanding and cooperation.’
Access this UNICEF page Poems for Peace which has videos of young people living in conflict regions reading poems they have written to express their hopes for a more peaceful future. Choose one of the videos to listen to and write a personal response to it.
