PREPARATION TASKS

Below you can find tasks that introduce the topic of the example essay in each version of the Academic Writing Guide (see the main menu). The tasks work well as an introduction both to the topic and to the skill of argumentation.

This is a Powerpoint with accompanying worksheet that offers practice in forming a position on a topic based on prompts and some preliminary reading.

 

​​If you are a student you can work through the slides and complete the worksheet by yourself, or it can be used as an in-class activity. It works well as the basis for a discussion about the research process, and as an introduction to the sample essay and tasks in the Psychology version of the Academic Writing Guide (accessed via the main menu) on the topic of phobias.
